Tanzanite

TANZANITE is the newest, most exotic gem stone on the market today. Displaying vibrant shades of blue and violet, Some stones appear more violet, and most will display both colors depending on the light source. Smaller stones generally display lighter lavender hues, while larger stones are often richer in color saturation.
This precious gemstone's rarity has made it the most sought after category of fine jewellery. Tanzanite jewellery would make a lovely holiday gift, because of its beauty and rarity. Discovered after intense fire, this novel gem stone is prized for its rich, rare color.

History::
Tanzanite's rarity is attributed to its limited source, Tanzania. So far, Tanzania is the only country where it is mined. Legend has it that the affect of heat was first discovered when some brown Zoisite crystals (named after discover Baron von Zois) laying on the ground among other rocks were struck by lightning. The bolt started a fire that swept through the grass-covered hills where the gems lay. Cattle herders in the area noticed the beautiful blue color and picked up the crystals, thus becoming the first Tanzanite collectors.

Quality::
The four C's: Cut, Color, Clarity, Carat

Cut :: A symmetrical cut will yield the most effective refraction of light, therefore producing the most pleasing sparkle.

Color :: When buying Tanzanite jewellery, the most important factor to consider is the color, as this will be the determining factor in the stone's value. Since this dynamic stone is found in rich shades of blue and/or violet, personal preferences will vary.

Clarity :: Most Tanzanite is free from visible inclusions, although they are present from time to time. The most valuable stones do not have visible inclusions.

Carat :: Tanzanite is available in a variety of shapes and carat weight ranges. Smaller stones are generally lighter in color saturation, while larger stones are usually darker.

Care ::
  • Tanzanite jewellery should be cleaned with mild soap and water or with jewellery cleaner.
  • It should not be cleaned in an ultrasonic jewellery cleaning machine or steamer, because the high    temperatures could cause damage to the stone.
  • Most importantly, impacts, which could crack or shatter the stone, should be avoided.
